Privacy policy

This is a personal, static website. It has no user accounts, no comment system, no contact forms and no newsletter – so there is very little of your data for me to collect, and I like it that way.

What this site collects

Nothing, unless you say yes to analytics. The site runs no advertising and sets no tracking cookies by default. Two things live in your browser’s local storage regardless: your light/dark theme preference and your analytics choice. Neither leaves your device.

I use PostHog to see which articles people find useful – page views, referrers and rough device/browser information. It only runs if you press “Accept analytics” on the consent banner:

  1. Until you accept, the analytics code doesn’t load and no analytics cookies exist.
  2. If you decline, that’s remembered and you won’t be asked again.
  3. Data is processed on PostHog’s EU servers.
  4. You can change your mind any time on the settings page – withdrawing consent stops collection and clears PostHog’s cookies.

Server logs

Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site keeps standard access logs (IP address, browser user agent, pages requested). I use these only for keeping the site running and spotting abuse, and they are not shared with anyone.

Embedded content

Some articles embed content from other services:

  • CodePen demos – these only load if you click the “Load interactive demo” button, so CodePen sees nothing unless you choose to load one.
  • YouTube videos – embedded using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode, which sets no cookies until you press play.
  • Spotify – one playlist embed on the About page.

Once you interact with embedded content, the same rules apply as if you’d visited that service directly, including any cookies or tracking they use. Their privacy policies apply to that interaction, not this one.

Articles link out to other websites. I’m not responsible for the privacy practices of the sites I link to.

Your rights

If you never accepted analytics, this site holds no personal data about you – there’s nothing to export or erase. If you did accept, the analytics data is pseudonymous usage data in PostHog; withdraw consent on the settings page and message me on LinkedIn if you’d like it deleted, and I’ll sort it out.

Changes to this policy

If the site ever adds something that changes this picture, this page will be updated first, and the “last updated” date above will change.
